About Jane Birchall

Jane Birchall Ceramics.

My travels have meant I have been lucky enough to call home the sunny shores of Califiornia, the golden coast of Sharjah and the lush banks and fast moving waters of Pendle Water in Lancashire.   Now, my little studio has moved to a new home on the tiny rugged island of Gozo, offering me fresh inspiration from the ever changing vivid blues and golden sands of nearby Ramla Bay.

After studying design in Los Angeles and following a career in fashion and decor, I now feel that being mainly self-taught in ceramics frees me from the traditional constraints of formal processes, allowing me to explore techniques uninhibited by preconception.

Hugely influenced by nature’s organic shapes and the ebb and flow of rivers and oceans, I strive to blend the age old techniques of hand building with our desire for inspired contemporary form.

I constantly experiment with mixed clay bodies, forms, glazes and oxides and strive for a unique shape or unusual combination of finishes.
